GB 4806.16-2025 Officially Implemented, Comprehensive Upgrade of Compliance Thresholds for Maternal and Infant Silicone Products

Recently, the national standard "GB 4806.16-2025 Silicone Materials and Products for Food Contact" was officially implemented. Compared with the 2016 version of the standard, the new regulation has achieved a major transformation from "result-based control" to "full-process quality control", putting forward more stringent safety requirements for the maternal and infant silicone products industry and setting compliance red lines for independent site sellers focusing on BPA-free silicone baby gear and food-grade silicone infant products.
It is reported that the new regulation focuses on optimizing three core requirements: first, tightening the limit standards, reducing the total migration of silicone products dedicated to infants and young children from 10mg/dm² to 5mg/dm², clearly prohibiting 12 types of harmful substances such as Bisphenol F (BPF) and Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), and limiting volatile substances (calculated as D4/D5/D6) to ≤0.5g/100g—key criteria for safe silicone baby accessories; second, adding a process quality control dimension, incorporating "vulcanization cross-linking integrity" into mandatory inspection items, and determining through the correlation of potassium permanganate consumption to eliminate the risk of unreacted monomer residues, which is crucial for medical-grade silicone baby products; third, improving testing scenarios, where chemical migration tests need to cover 3 types of simulants (acidic, oily, and aqueous), and microwave-applicable models need to pass an additional 50 thermal cycle retests, especially for silicone baby feeding bowls and silicone baby bottles.
 
For independent site sellers, compliance has become a core competitiveness in the silicone baby products market. The new regulation requires that on-salematernal and infant silicone products (including silicone baby bottles, silicone pacifiers, baby food bowls, silicone teething toys, etc.) must provide CMA test reports complying with GB 4806.16-2025, clearly mark the "for infants and young children only" logo and applicable age, and retain traceable information such as raw material batches, production processes, and test data for a traceability period of not less than 3 years. Industry insiders remind that independent site sellers focusing on eco-friendly silicone baby gear should promptly verify the qualifications of their supply chains, require suppliers to provide compliance declarations and test reports, to avoid risks such as platform removal, consumer complaints, or even cross-border penalties due to non-compliant products.
 
At present, leading domestic maternal and infant silicone manufacturers have completed production line upgrades, optimized key process parameters such as rubber mixing and vulcanization, added secondary vulcanization processes for infant products to reduce volatile substance residues, and strengthened incoming inspection of raw materials, focusing on controlling the heavy metal and impurity content of core raw materials such as base silicone, vulcanizing agents, and color masterbatches—key to producing high-quality food-grade silicone infant products and hypoallergenic silicone baby accessories. For independent sites, they can focus on highlighting the advantages of product compliance certifications, and display test reports, production quality control processes and other content on the product details page to enhance consumer trust, especially for hot-selling categories like silicone teething toys and silicone baby feeding sets.
